Kevan Corbett is a great multi-instrumentalist from here in Amherst who now lives in Halifax and has done very well for himself musically. He's been playing with bands down there such as Senseamelia Project and Blou. Recently he has released a CD in which he plays all of the instruments and you can download all of the songs at the following site: newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=14358 its certainly worth a listen especially for those of us from here in Amherst because he sings about some things here in town such as "dicky d's" ice cream bikes from several years ago and spring street and so on. He's truly a talented individual and in a perfect world we'd all be able to spend the 13 bucks to buy the CD. However amherst stores don't carry it because they don't really carry much of anything. so enjoy the link. I especially suggest "honourable mention", "Dear Gerry" and "Salvation Blows"

Thanks for the headsup Rick. I've started to really be into the undiscovered talent - especially if it's Canadian. There's so much good stuff out there that's not on mainstream radio or tv that's better then the commercially done crap that's being plaid so much. That's my oppinion anyway. ;D

Well I don't think that the likeability of a community is based directly on the number of successful people it spawns... people get caught up so much in the fact that this town doesn't have very much.. but along with not having very much of the things people would like to have (but obviously don't need if they're still exsisting) they neglect to recognise that this town also has none of the stuff that people don't want.. there is 0 crime really.. like our police are busy with the things thats other police forces would ignore.. sure drugs are a bit plentiful and people can be dumb but for the most part I'm sure everyone would name the same 10-20 that ruin things around here... the town is approaching 11000 people so i think there are 10 000 people who needs a tremendous ammount of credit for not being an arsehole...I think exposure to bad things is needed for learning... Thanks Amherst!! Thanks for helping make me a better person by showing me how while also showing me what I don't want to be... but on that note I can't wait to get the hell out of here and go somewhere where i may go somewheres...

Ok, this is kind of out of the blue and everything, but Kevin Corbett's Name sounded so familiar to me and I couldn't figure out why (No, not just from Ricky talking about him) So finally I was reading things the other day from Showcase Productions... (im a board member gotta know some history right?) Anyways, haha I realized that Kevin Corbett was the first person to ever receive the $1000 scholarship that Showcase gives out every year to a student pursuing a fine arts credit in University... So hey I thought taht was pretty awesome, and a "Little Known Fact" that maybe people would be interested to know..

That's actually really awesome. s'always fun to make little links like that aye! Kevan then used that scholarship to go to Mount A. I'm guessing he took music but he really could have taken anything, maybe journalism or something, but he definitely went to Mount A!

This little biography was taken from the Buckley' Music store's website in Halifax. (Surely a future JR Brontide hangout due to their selection and prices.. oh if only we had more money ) "Multi-instrumentalist Kevan Corbett began music studies in the public school system, went to Rock Camp at 15, and worked his way through a Bachelor of Music (percussion with a minor in bass), at Mount Allison University (1995) before moving to Halifax. Since then, he has collaborated in projects nominated for ECMAs in Jazz - Instrumental (Knifey Moloko - 1998), Best New Artist (Amelia Curran - 2002), and Francophone Album of the Year (Blou - Blou Blanc Rouge - winner 2004). Kevan has also worked with John Curtis Sampson (drums), Carol Ritchie (drums and bass), The MacLean Sisters (Percussion), the Band of the Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill (Percussion), Grand Derangement (Drums), was the house band drummer for the opening of the recent World Acadian Congress, and played in front of 60,000 people on Parliament Hill this past Canada Day with Blou. Kevan started in Blou as the bass player, played bass and guitar on the album, and is now the drummer (?). His long-anticipated solo album (he played all the instruments, the nerd!) comes out in the Spring of 2005, with more touring to follow. He enjoys national and international travel (so far: every province in Canada, plus England, Ireland, France, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Italy, USA, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Brazil, Panama, China, Guatemala, and Costa Rica) and has a busy schedule of grasshoppers to teach this year (Styles?: Funk, Punk, Celtic, Country, Military, Classical, Blues, Jazz, TradFolk, NeoFolk, NeoTribe, Cajun/Zydeco, Metal, Pop, New Age…any requests?) on drums, bass, and percussion. Kevan has developed a method of his own for Djembe. Nice fella, too… See Kev’s website www.clumsy.ca -"

I've decided to post pictures in all of the "educational" musician threads so people who aren't firmiliar can connect with the artist easier since seeing is beleiving and we should all certain believe in these great musicians

So there is finally a place in town here that carries Clumsy!! I was speaking with Kevan's mother last night and I promoted our show this week to her and such and she told me that last time Kev was home he dropped into the newspaper office and spoke with them about an article to promote his music and to advertise that Clumsy is available at Pugsley's Pharmacy! So I just dropped down and picked up a copy for myself, I'll have fun in Dartmouth playing it for my friends who find their way into my apartment.
I have a copy of an earlier CD that Kev didn't formally release, he just gave some people a copy and he says he hates it its pretty minimalistic in content and is just Kevan and his guitar but I like it alot too. I think of the songs that appear on both the "rough copy" and the refined versions on Clumsy I prefer the rough copy, both are awesome though I'm very pleased with this purchase! (canada)
