Hey guys!
It's been awhile, but here is a line from everyone favorite Rick Horsman. Lastnight I decided to take a trip across the harbour to Halifax to visit with our friend Kelly for the first time since coming to the city. So we meet up and on the way back to her place something catches my eye. "Ginger's Pub" and it hits me and I think "Whoa there is Ginger's a lady from home talks about this place and says we should try to play there" So we get back to Kelly's and she shows me her fancy colored walls and how the few out her windows are simply the walls of the buildings next door. So we take it all in and then I suggest we head down to Gingers Pub and see what that whole thing is all about. We get there and things are pretty cool, its a two level bar and we head upstairs. A lady comes over to serve us and having never seen us she tells us some things about the bars operation. They brew their own beer in 6 different types. Kelly and I tried what she suggested to us, I don't remember what it was called "peculiar" maybe.. it was the top right on the menu. So then I tried their dark beer which I thought was goood, both beer had an almost fruity taste to them. Anyway the reason we stuck around is because upon our arrival we discovered a banjo case on the floor by a little quaint stage so we know there is going to be some kind of entertainment. Eventually a tall fella comes in with a guitar and some sound equipment, so we start getting excited to hear a wednesday night acoustic show. He sets up and begins playing at around 9:30. The place begins to fill up a bit and the guy puts on a great folk/rock/blues/bluegrass/reggae show it was awesome. We chatted for awhile and it turns out his name is Scott Cook and he is from Edmonton Alberta where he plays with a band called "The Anglers" He's in the middle of a tour and basically he's just driving from town to town making money for gas to get to the next destination... Ginger's wasn't paying him to be there so during his breaks he would encourage people to put some money in his case if they liked what he was doing. Anyway Scott is a great talent with a great deep whispery voice. You can check Scott's website out at www.scottcook.net
I enjoyed taking in my first live act here in the city. and if anything particularly worth writing home over happens again I'll be sure to report it on here. It's a shame Scott isn't local cuz I'd totally jam with him and try to have JR Brontide open for him, I think that'd fly pretty well
